Why is my cat still losing weight and fur after a normal vet exam?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | spayed | 7 years and 4 months old | 11 lbs

My cat is 7 years old. She just had an exam with blood test. They found she had an abcess tooth so they fixed that and her blood test came back normal. She is still getting skinny and her fur is changing. What is wrong?

Hi. Im sorry Miyu is losing weight. There are alot of reasons this could happen. High thyroid, parasites, irritable bowel disease, cancer, and some metabolic or endocrine diseases. If the labwork was normal, the tooth was fixed, and she is eating well, i would recommend the following...fecal test, thyroid check, addominal ultrasound and chest xrays. There is a lot of things that won't show up on labs, so these are the next steps. Good luck
