How do i use slippery elm to help reduce acid reflux? Does it have to be given away from food like it does with meds?

Most veterinarians mix the powder directly with food, but I think it would also be okay to give prior to meals. The slippery elm might not help all that much if there is an esophageal problem or esophagitis due to reflux. Reflux is not necessarily that common in dogs so if you haven't seen your vet for this problem I would definitely recommend making an appointment to have Louie examined and confirm the diagnosis.
