My cat has recurring UTIs, blood in urine, but tests are normal.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 years and 11 months old | 20 lbs

My cat has had recurring UTI's since she was a year old (now 6). She was sick earlier this year with the same issue. Blood tests, x-rays, urinalysis were done and everything came back normal. When she pees, I can see blood mixed with her pee. Other than that she is eating & behaving normally. I am concerned though. I want her to get better but IDK if I should take her to a new vet or trust the vet that she has been seen since she was a kitten.

Hi, and thanks for your question. These signs might be compatible with a urinary tract infection/inflammation. Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation) infection and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. I think an ultrasound is needed as more sensitive than the x rays to diagnose more sinister causes like tumors and certain type of urinary stones that may be not detectable with the x rays.
