My dog is lethargic, won't eat, coughs, and has a rash. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Dog | Standard Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 25 lbs

I have a schnauzer mix approximately 6 years old. I left him for about a week and when I returned he had a rash on his upper chest but no itching. His shoulders are sore and he won’t eat, drink or go outside. This morning he will not get off the couch. He also feels warm. He looks like he lost a lot of weight over night. When I do get him to take sips of water he coughs. The person that was watching him reported no falls, injuries or contact With other animals I have another dog that is fine.

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Dante. I would recommend having Dante seen by your veterinarian so that they can perform an examination and diagnostic workup. It is possible that the rash is due to a skin infection, but these often do not make dogs systemically I’ll, so I am concerned that something else could be going on. Your veterinarian may recommend bloodwork and taking X-rays to look for possible causes of his symptoms. The coughing that you are seeing could be a sign that Dante has pneumonia which can cause lethargy, inappetance and fever. Hope this helps, good luck!
