Why does my active budgie have diarrhea and a foul-smelling vent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Female

My budgie has been having diarrhoea for 1 month but is normal otherwise. I checked her bottom and there was whiteness around her vent and it smelled foul. What is wrong with my bird, what should I do? The diarrorhea is green and watery but shes active and eating well.

Thanks for reaching out about Sarikiz and including pictures. Intestinal infections, liver disease, and kidney disease are some of the common causes for loose stool/diarrhea. Lees likely for an ingested foreign body if the clinical signs have persisted for this long period of time. Keeping her cloaca (vent) clean with a warm wet washcloth might help decrease discomfort. A veterinary visit is probably needed for a diagnosis and treatments. Good luck.
