Is 1cc of air injected under my dog's skin during vaccination dangerous?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | neutered | 9 years and 3 months old | 66 lbs

Can injecting 1 cc of air subcutaneously while vaccinating cause any harm to a 66 pound dog ? When drawing up the vaccine the tech pulled the syringe up furthur than 1 cc and didn’t push it back down so there was 1cc of air that went in subcutaneously before the vaccine actually entered. I am just concerned about the air causing an air embolism

The small amount of air should not pose risk of injury or embolism. If it went subcutaneously, it will eventually be absorbed. Even if it it went intravenously, there would not be serious risk of embolism. It would take significantly more air to result in a dangerous embolism.
