Why did my Doberman die suddenly after coughing and breathing issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Female | spayed | 10 years and 9 months old | 80 lbs

So my 11 year old Doberman pincher has passed away this morning, but we don’t know what happened to her. She started with a cough about a week or two ago. But it got worse before the night the died. She woke my mom up that morning and she could barely breathe, then she started to bleed out of her mouth, then she just fell flat on her stomach, legs out. She flipped herself over and she got stiff. Please help me find out what was wrong with her! Thank you so much for your time ❤️

First off, I'm extremely sorry Belle died suddenly! Please accept my condolences for your loss. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain what caused her to die, but it could be she was suffering from heart disease. That would cause a cough, and can lead to sudden death. If you want a definitive answer, you could take her into a vet for a necropsy (an autopsy for dogs). Again, I'm very sorry for your loss.
