My dog ripped out stitches after cyst surgery. Vet's closed, what now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 10 years and 10 months old | 16 lbs

My dog has a cyst removal 9 days ago. Her stitches were to come out in 5 days but she ripped them out today and her vet is closed for the weekend. The incision appears closed but I was wondering if I need to do anything or if it will be fine?

I would not touch it. Make sure she has an Elizabethan collar on so she doesn’t bite at it. I would call your vet in the morning to have them evaluate the incision to make sure it is completely closed. They may just have you keep the collar on for another 5 days. The incision is healing well according to the picture. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
