Why does my cat meow with open mouth, head back while eating?

Hi there! My cat is showing an abnormal behavior recently! He suddenly push his head back, closing his eyes while opening his mouth and meowing! Mostly while eating and grooming what should we do? Is it dangerous? Please help! Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 13 lbs

If not, does he pant or breathe with his mouth open? This can be a sign of respiratory distress in a cat. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian for an examination. He could possibly be painful. Based on these results, blood work may be recommended as well. A thyroid disorder can cause a cat to meow more frequently. I hope this information helps!
