What can I use for my ferret's scratched eye if I can't afford a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Male | neutered

My ferret has a scratched/perforated cornea. We don't have the money right now to take him to a vet which is killing me because I want him to be okay and treated properly. So I wanted to know what we can do to help. I did some research and was told that antibacterial ointment/eye drops work. What would be safe to use on a ferret? I don't want him to be in pain, which I'm sure he is even though he won't show it. Please please please help me. I want my little baby to be okay.

Clindamycin can be used but eye status and actual injury requires a veterinary assessment as if eye is perforated there may be contraindications. Pictures of the eyes would help us greatly to give you more specific advices.
