It depends on the cause of the diarrhea. He could have intestinal worms, a food intolerance, in issue called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) in which the pancreas doesn't make digestive enzymes. You'll need to start with a vet visit to rule out parasites and try to get his gut settled down. You could also run bloodwork to check for EPI, however we generally wait to see if other methods get the diarrhea under control first. Good luck! I know this is a frustrating issue

I'm sorry your pup has had so much trouble! My pup has the same trouble. Make sure they are on a good probiotic! That really helps. Find a good Holistic vet to help you tailor your supplements to best help your pet. I really like Standard Process Enteric support, which you get from a Chiropractor, Vet etc. I use Animal Apawthecary Colon Rescue which you can get over the counter, to help with the diarrhea. Find a good Holistic vet, Acupuncturist or Vet Chiropractor to help you out!

Poor Dylan! If he has a sensitive stomach and gets diarrhea easily, he may benefit from a prescription GI diet that is bland and easy to digest, or a hypoallergenic limited ingredient diet such as Hills z/d or Purina HA - I would suggest talking to your vet about these options to see if he/she feels that they might be helpful. It's also possible that Dylan has some other underlying medical issue causing the recurring diarrhea, such as intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, Addison's disease, etc. I would recommend having a full check-up done by your vet if this hasn't been done in the past - he/she can do blood work or other testing if needed to check for these problems and get him started on appropriate treatment if needed.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Giacomo. I'm sorry to hear you are having all of these problems with him. About 75% of the time ongoing diarrhea in puppies is related to intestinal parasites or diet. So have your veterinarian ensure he does not have any parasites including giardia. If he is negative and has been properly dewormed, I should start him on a prescription low fat diet that is highly digestible. I use Purina ProPlan Veterinary Diets EN as it is safe for use in growing puppies. If this diet does not resolve the diarrhea, he may require a diet for a food allergy such as a hydrolyzed formula. My senior dog keeps having spells where she has diarrhea. We have not switched her food and she is on a sensitive system diet.
Diarrhea can be a symptom of many illnesses, so if your dog has had chronic diarrhea and a diet change hasn't helped (such as being on a sensitive diet like you stated), then it is a good idea to schedule an appointment with your local vet. Your vet can check for problems such as parasites or illnesses that may be causing digestive upset. Your vet may also recommend a senior blood panel to help check for any senior-related illnesses that may be causing the symptoms you see. Be sure to collect a sample of your dog's stool if you can before your appointment. In the meantime, offering something such as some plain yogurt, or even boiled chicken and rice can help soothe a minorly upset stomach, however an appointment is needed to address the underlying cause of diarrhea.

Because of the possibility of this being related to a food sensitivity, you can try to feed her a sensitive stomach commercial diet to see is this improves. If no improvement is noted, I recommend that you have Baby evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Diarrhea can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. I would fast Denny for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

I'm sorry to hear that Hatty is having so much diarrhea. I would first make sure that she's had a fecal exam to look for parasites and that she is being dewormed regularly. You may also consider a blood panel to look for any underlying medical reasons that may be causing diarrhea, such as pancreatic disease. If the pancreas is not producing digestive enzymes like it should, then the food can't be properly broken down and nutrients can't be absorbed and this often results in diarrhea. Once medical causes are ruled out, then you can address the diet. Any time there is a diet change, you have to make sure to feed only that food for 6 to 8 weeks to see if she improves. During this time, she cannot have anything else by mouth, including treats, people food and even oral medications like Heartgard since it has real beef in it. Ideally, you would start with a prescription diet that it hydrolyzed or limited ingredient since there is no cross-contamination in these foods. Over the counter limit

Hi, sorry to hear Rex is having diarrhea. The most common reasons for puppies to get diarrhea is worms. make sure he is dewormed properly by a vet. bring a stool sample to have them test it for worms, because not all worms can be seen without a microscope. Another reason is diet change. Since he is a puppy, it is likely you changed his food since getting him or have given him a treat he is not used to. And puppies are mischievous and can get into things like people food and garbage when not supervised. I would start by feeding hm a diet of boiled chicken and rice instead of dog food for 2 days to see if that clears it up. If not, take a stool sample to your vet and have him looked at and dewormed. My dog has mild diarrhea/loose stools but he is asking completely fine still drinking and eating. My brother gave him a wet dog food can a week ago which he is used go dry food since day one. Could that be the cause?
If diarrhea is related to something they ate, it should start within a day of eating the food. The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. I'm sorry to hear of your concerns with Snowball. Inflammatory bowel disease can be a frustrating problem to deal with. The only way to definitively diagnose it is via intestinal biopsies. Food trials with hypoallergenic diets can be helpful in cases of inflammatory bowel disease, but do not always solve the overall problem. Sometimes a course of steroids, supplementation a certain vitamins and even antibiotics are needed to get things back on track. Given that it sounds like Snowball has a sensitive stomach, I would not recommend feeding lettuce as it is difficult to digest. Oftentimes feeding a low-fat, easily digested diet can be helpful. If the diarrhea continues I would recommend having Snowball seen by your veterinarian. There are certain blood tests that can be beneficial to determine if any additional vitamins are needed and they can help you to develop a plan for further diagnostics or management of symptoms in a long term.
