My zebra finch father died. Can the mother raise chicks alone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Finch | Male | unneutered

I have two zebra finches that are parents to three eggs. Recently, the father died. What should I do since the mother bird will have to take care of three little birds on her own?

I'm sorry for the loss of your male finch. The female should be able to raise the chicks on her own. Make sure she always had fresh food and water. Keep her an the chicks warm and as stress free as possible. Once the chicks are eating on their own, you can separate them and introduce a new male if you want.
