My Boston Terrier's back leg injured, X-rays clear, no feeling?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years and 5 months old | 33 lbs

My Boston terrier hurt himself while playing with his two much bigger siblings yesterday. Defacating and dragging his back left leg and his back right leg looking almost as if it were drunk. Within an hr he was putting weight and using it but very sloppily and with no real control. X Rays showed nothing which were done within 3 hrs of injury. Given caprofen and crate rest as recommended recovery plan. This morning he still seems to have no pain perception in that leg and it’s kind of just there.

Poor guy. I would be most worried about a vertebral disc issue with that description. It wouldn't show up on x-rays, only an MRI or other advanced imaging study. If it is related to a disc, quick aggressive treatment will give him the best chance of recovery. Since he doesn't have pain perception, this is an emergency and he should go to a neurologist immediately.
