My cat has red skin around her eyes. Is it allergies or an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My cat has red skin around her eyes once a while, we are not sure if it's from fighting with our other cat, but I am very sure it's not only from fighting. Both of my cats are totally indoor cats. The res eye cat is around 8 years old.

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Kitty. The photos that you have provided make me think that her eye problems are secondary to fighting with your other cat. The skin around her eyes is quite red and inflamed and there are scabs present. It is possible that Kitty may have a bacterial or parasitic infection. Alternatively she could be experiencing allergies. I would recommend having Kitty seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine her and perform further testing if needed. They may suggest collecting a hair sample from the affected area or perform skin testing. Hope this helps, good luck!
