Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 45 lbs
I have a 1 year female pit bull. She seems to be developing a kind of doggy dandruff? She’s very itchy and scratches all the time. She also has this irritation on her belly. This happens on and off and my vet just gives her antibiotics without giving me any kind of diagnosis. Can you give me any suggestions about how to treat this at home? Naturally if possible? I plan on bathing her with the medicated shampoo I have tonight. Please see photos

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Casey. The lesions in the photos look similar to a pustule, which is an infected area of skin. They can form secondary to a variety of diseases. Based on the other signs you are describing (dandruff and itching) it is possible that Casey may be experiencing allergies. Allergies can occur due to the environment, food, or medications. Bathing can help to reduce the dandruff. Antibiotics are the treatment of choice if her skin is infected. I would suggest having her rechecked by your veterinarian if the lesions persist so that you can consider performing an allergy workup. Alternatively, the could perform a skin scrape or impression smear to look at the skin cells under the microscope. Hope this helps, good luck!
