Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | unspayed | 14 lbs
My daschund had dental surgey 3 months ago, there was a hole left where her long canine tooth was that hasn't fully closed. The vet said let it be, it might take a while to close. But today she got a nose bleed and there is blood coming from the tooth area, also looks like its the blood clogging up. Is this a concern? I'm concerned but she wont be able to see the vet until next week.

Hello, I am sorry to hear about a Brookie. Based on what you are describing it sounds like she could have something called an oronasal fistula, which is an abnormal connection between the mouth and nasal cavity. Dog’s tooth roots are quite long and if there is abnormal or lack of healing after removal of a tooth a fistula can form. I would recommend having Brookie evaluated sooner than next week as fistulas can become infected. Depending on the severity and what the site looks like Brookie may need to have this area flushed and closed to prevent food material from lodging in there or reinfection. Hope this helps, good luck!
