My dog has bloody discharge post-spay. Is this normal or concerning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | BullBoxer | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 49 lbs

Adopted my dog a week ago. When she was brought to the shelter it was said she was found/stray. She had apparently given birth within a week of surrender which was Oct 9th. She was spayed on Oct 23rd. Today she has had some mucussy/dark bloody discharge. Normal or call my vet?

She should not have a discharge a week after the spay, however sometimes thisx can happen. This could also be a sign of an infection, or a sign of a UTI. I would take her to your veterinarian for an exam, just in case.
