My dog ate pecans. Are pecans safe for dogs? What to watch for?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 5 years and 1 month old | 11 lbs

11 pound dog ate pecans halves fisher brand no shells just pecans halves prepackaged not sure how many she had I don’t think it could have been much I caught it fast ...should I be concerned or what do I watch for if it makes her sick would it be right away? Thank you for your time.

Hello. There is nothing toxic in pecans that would harm a dog. At most, she may have an upset stomach for a day or so & may vomit or have diarrhea. If she feels like eating, you might want to feed her lightly with small meals ( about 1-2 tablespoons at a time ) of cooked ground turkey mixed with plain boiled white rice or low fat cottage cheese. If she seems fine tomorrow, you can resume her regular diet. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

    Pecans are not toxic to dogs, so eating one or two should normally not cause any problems. You might see some mild GI upset if Daisy isn't used to "human food", but we would not expect to see any serious issues :)
