What causes my dog's smelly, leaky, and red ears with dark wax?

My dog a cocker spaniel has very smelly leaky ear the wax is a dark colour and smells very bad. The area also looks a bit wet. She does not scratch the area much. The inner ear looks a little red. What can this be and whats the best way to treat it please. Thank you for your help. Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 37.34 lbs
