Dog has swollen tooth, bad breath, acting weird. Is it an abscess?

Hi I came home from an overnight camping trip and my 12 yr old male beagle has what looks like a swollen tooth. He wont let me open his mouth to look at it and has had bad breath for a long time.. probably the last year. i cant get him to the vet until wed at 5 so im worried what could happen until then. I assume this is some sort of abecess. Hes now acting a little weird by sleeping in a corner. Thanks!! Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 11 years and 11 months old | 20 lbs
