Why does my dog have black spots and discoloration on her belly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 28 lbs

I’m not sure what these bruise looking spots are? The look like they have black spots on the and some of the black dots are raised. The discoloration is also around some of her nipples. What exactly is this and what can I do to get rid of it. It doesn’t hurt or seem to bother my dog too much. She’ll occasionally lick it.

Hi there. It could be a couple of things causing the spots on Harley's belly. Some dogs with get mild bacterial skin infections that can cause blackheads. This can usually be managed with medicated shampoo. It could also be some discoloration due to another skin disease that causes changes in the pigment. To be safe, I'd have Harley checked by your vet to get a diagnosis and treatment if needed. I hope that helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
