My cat's eye is closed and she's shying away. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 6 lbs

Is this a big problem for her eye? She is shying away a bit, and keeps it closed the majority of the time, and won’t let me look at it for more than a few seconds. It looks similar to uveitis, I have seen that before in my other cat. I am not able to tell if it is swollen or not. With the coloring and shape of face? i believe she had diarrhea yesterday to, she also scoot her But on the floor and peed on the floor the first time yesterday. Just wanted to see so I don’t worry alotnbefore the vet.

Tipper is lovely! Yes, this is a big problem for her eye. She could have injured her eye or she could have an eye infection. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. She needs to see a vet today. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.
