Why is my dog licking her bottom so much after using an essential oil collar?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 9 years and 3 months old | 8 lbs

I have a female Pekingese mix that is almost 9 years old. She's an inside dog and my best friend no coarse. She has been acting different and the only thing i notice is that she's washing her bottom a lot. I can't tell which part she's washing but I think it is her butt. Sometimes her whole lower tummy and bottom are wet from the washing. I don't know what could be wrong. The only thing I've done different is not use chemicals on nexk for fleas, instead an essential oil flea collar.

I would bet that your essential oil flea collar just is not up to the job of preventing and killing fleas. Teether is obviously itching in exact those places which are favorite dwelling and biting places of fleas. You may not see fleas as they only hop on to eat then hop off again. I strongly suggest you use a reliable flea prevention product such as Spot-ons and/or chews Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi (Advocate in the UK) Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats, in tablet form for dogs Simparica, Nexgard Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Collar: Seresto (ticks as well)
