How to get my dog on a feeding schedule without him begging?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old

Barry doesn’t have an eating schedule I just refill his food after he is done eating. I want to start a schedule, time in the morning and at night. But I’m worried that when I put his bowl of food for when it is time to eat he is not going to eat and during the day, when I took his food away when it was time, he is starving. How can I get Barry to get used of a schedule and not beg during the day? What should be an eating schedule for Barry to be healthy? How much food should I give him?

Feed him three times a day the amount specified on the bag. Take his food away ten minutes afterwards so he learns that he has to eat then or it is gone. If he missed a few feeds it is not really a problem.
