What's this painful lump on my old dog's neck from scratching?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

Hello, my small dog is old, since yesterday she's been scratching under her neck and today she has like a ball and when i went to touch it softly she recoiled and didn't want it to be touched again. Could you tell me what it could be?

It looks like her skin is just very inflamed in that area from all the scratching. I suggest you take her to your vet for an exam. She will likely need some strong prescription medications to get this to clear up. In the meantime you can use this hydrocortisone spray on it to give her some relief: ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/zymox-spray-with-5-hydrocortisone ) Hope this helps.
