Why is my dog suddenly scared and cowering, but seems otherwise fine?

my dog is acting scared and cowering and staying right beside me or under my legs all the time. she woke up in the night and wouldnt stay on the bed, just sat right beside it. eating, drinking, pooping, walking, all is fine. she isn't crying or panting, just seems scared for the last 24 hours. help! Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 3 years and 3 months old | 20 lbs

Poor Maple. With that description, I worry about pain first and foremost - something like neck pain can come out of no where (no injury, rough housing, trauma, etc) and cause dogs to be really upset without limping or crying out in any way. Since she's otherwise normal, you probably don't need to rush to an emergency clinic, although if you're able to get her in to a vet this weekend, she might appreciate it.
