I am afraid this is a tumor. It is not possible to say whether it is benign or malign from a photo or even from looking at it in person. You should have it examined by your veterinarian as tumors should be removed ASAP. Your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.

Hello, and thank you for your question! It is difficult to say with certainty what the lump is, but possibilities include a fatty deposit (lipoma), which is common and benign in older dogs; an abscess; or a tumour. The best way to get a definitive answer is to bring Lola to the vet. They will likely recommend a fine needle aspirate, which allows them to a sample of the cells within the lump and analyze under the microscope. This is the safest and least invasive way to get an answer. If a lipoma is confirmed, the vet may recommend just monitoring it for further growth. If it is a tumour, Lola may need surgery to remove it. In the meantime, monitor for any scratching or discomfort in the area of the lump, or any change in size or shape. These signs would warrant a speedy visit to the vet. I hope this helps, and that Lola is otherwise happy and healthy!
