My indoor cat has a wound. Is it serious enough for a vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Snowshoe | Male | neutered

I recently found a wound on my cat and was concerned for his health. He's usually an indoor cat, but has managed to run outside a few times. I gently cleaned the wound with a cotton ball slightly damp with hydrogen peroxide and put a cone on the cat to prevent him from excessively licking the wound, but I was curious if the wound looked serious enough to elicit further help or if you could provide any additional advice to properly care for the wound. There should be a photo attached.

There is a photo attached this time, thank you! Yes, the wound looks serious enough to warrant a vet visit. That looks like it could use stitches to close, and Kiyo will need antibiotics to prevent infection. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
