Why is my kitten's one eye still runny after URI treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 months and 8 days old | 7 lbs

I have a kitten I adopted from the humane society when she was 8 weeks old. When we got her, we took her to the vet because of a running eye. She was diagnosed and treated for an URI. She has always had a runny eye, only one. Is this something that should still be concerning? When she was taken in to be spayed yesterday nobody mentioned it. I’m worried that she may still be sick and I don’t realize due to the fact that she is playing and eating and acting normal. It is her right eye.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding October. If her eye is producing yellow/green discharge or if she is squinting, this is cause for concern. If there is a clear liquid, then there are several potential causes. She could be experiencing allergies, but this typically affects both eyes. If she has an eyelash growing the wrong way, it could be rubbing against her eye and irritating it. She could also have a blocked tear duct. You can ask her veterinarian about these possibilities next time she is there. I hope this information helps!
