Why did my cat hit her daughter after I hurt her during nail trim?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 5 months old

I was grooming her daughter , cutting he nails. I guess I missed it by cutting deeper. so her daughter screams and hisses at me which I get , but she came running toward me and I thought wow so worried about her daughter and I was thinking she might attack me now, I could be in danger if she decided to protect her daughter. To my Surprise she came running but hit her daughter as if she was protecting me , is that weird ? I didn’t realise why was I more important than her daughter?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That is not that abnormal behavior or uncommon. She probably got startled and acted that way though I do not think this means she considers you or her more important. Good luck!
