For smaller dogs, this would be concerning. Larger dogs would probably be unaffected by the small amount of chocolate in a treat. If white chocolate was used, it would be safe for dogs. Without seeing an actual label, it is difficult to determine safety. The best option would be to avoid any amount of cacao.

Cats and holiday decorations don’t always mix well. As curious animals, cats tend to explore any new additions to their environment and see many of these shiny, new objects as fun toys. Tinsel is the ultimate shiny object for a cat to play with, which often ends with subsequent ingestion. If ingested, tinsel poses a serious risk of causing an intestinal blockage, also known as a linear foreign body obstruction. This life-threatening surgical emergency can easily be avoided by keeping tinsel out of homes with cats. Other holiday decorations can pose problems to particularly curious cats, such as strings of lights that some cats may try to chew, decorative ornaments or snow globes that look like toys to bat around, or poisonous plants, such as mistletoe or poinsettias. When decorating for the holidays, try to look at your house from your cat’s point of view and keep decorations that look like enticing toys packed away.

Consider putting your pet in a crate. Take out trash and remove items from kitchen counter. Do not leave toys out. Leave emergency contact info on fridge including your pet's veterinarian phone number. Leave a bowl of fresh water out. Be sure to let someone know (friend, neighbor, parents) you are leaving your pet at home in case of emergencies.

I would expect side effects such as diarrhea and vomiting. I would feed a bland diet of chicken and rice if these signs develop and feed for at least 3 days past the resolution of the vomiting. It contains xylitol, which is toxic to cats. I would not let him have any licks of it, and if you drink it outside the house, that's fine and he will be safe. I hope this helps!

There is nothing wrong with crate training your pet when you are out of the house, especially if he is going to be destructive to the house and/or consume things that could be very harmful to him. I recommend consulting with your veterinarian about possible medications to give Spooky when you are out to make crating easier for him. I definitely understand your concerns! Unfortunately, cats are quite sensitive to most human medications and there is really nothing you can use that would be likely to be on-hand at your house. Some owners have good luck with a natural calming supplement like Composure, Rescue Remedy, or a Feliway pheromone diffuser for these situations, but you would need to find an open store that carries a good selection of pet supplies and make a quick trip out to try and find these things.

This is not enough chocolate to cause toxicity unless your pets have an abnormal sensitivity. Check the ingredients to make sure there is no xylitol as this is toxic to dogs. If xylitol is present, they need to go to the veterinarian right away for further decontamination. While you may not see any adverse effects, eating candy can result in vomiting or diarrhea.
