My dog is wheezing, tired, not eating. Antibiotics not helping. Vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

My dog Ittle is wheezing and very tired all the time. We have gone to the vet a couple of times and she does have an infection. It is not getting better. She barely eats. Now, she is breathing loudly. Should we take her back to the vet? They did many tests and things were okay, just high white blood cell count which means infection. we have her on antibiotic but its been a few days of her still wheezing

Hello. It often takes a bit of time for some infections to clear, but if you are concerned, please have her rechecked as soon as possible. This may be an indication that a new, or another antibiotic needs to be added to her treatment. Another option is to have her re-evaluated at a referral clinic, one that has multiple specialists. Sometimes, it takes a fresh pair of eyes to diagnose a difficult problem. Do not wait to see what happens since she is obviously worse. I hope Ittle is feeling better soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
