My rescued kitten is friendly but won't play. How to get her active?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

I found a stray kitten 2 weeks ago outside my apartment complex. Judging by her aize maybe, she is maybe 6 months or older. She is very friendly and lives to cuddle. However she does not play at all. I've used a laser pointer, balls, toy mice, a string, everything possible, and she just looks at me like I'm crazy. Should I be concerned? Do you have any recommendations to get her more active?

Hello. You might want to first have this kitty checked out to make sure she is as healthy as possible. She might feel well enough to be friendly, but does not have the extra energy to engage in any play. Otherwise, she may just be one of those mysterious cats that we find so frustrating to figure out. She may also just need more time to learn to play, even though most cats have an innate need to pounce. Thanks for saving little Annie & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
