Why is Purina Pro Plan better quality than Alpo or Beneful dog food?

So I asked a question about dog food not long ago and a vet here said that Vets usually recommend foods like Hills and Purina because big companies have medical and nutrition specialists on staff. Purina is pretty big and if their foods are checked, compared to the boutique outfits, why Pro Plan and not Alpo or beneful? Those are also made by Purina. Just an example. Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 119 lbs

Foods made by Purina are good, but ones like ProPlan have higher quality ingredients than say Alpo or Beneful. In my opinion, Purina is the best of the supermarket brands, so getting a food made by Purina whether it be Purina One or Beneful is fine. I hope this helps!
