My dog has night diarrhea, mucus, and scoots but acts normal. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | 65 lbs

Hi, my dog has had diarrhea in his kennel for the past two nights, but after that his stool goes back to normal. It does appear to have some mucus in it. He’s acting normal and eating normal. Last night, he did scoot his butt on the floor for a few seconds. What could be the issue? He is drinking normal as well.

There could be a couple of reasons why Samson has diarrhea including intestinal worms, a GI illness, a sudden change in diet, or eating something rotten. If he isn't up to date on his deworming treatments, I would give him one now. Scooting could also be caused by intestinal worms, or it could be due to impacted anal sacs. If the deworming treatment doesn't help with his diarrhea or he's up to date on them, I would take him into the vet for a check up. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
