Puppy's cut toe is swollen, red, and she keeps licking it. Infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 4 days old | 60 lbs

My puppy had her back right toe cut open Friday night. It was healing fine, but she recently started licking it. Is it infected? The flash photos make it look more yellow than it looks in person. Is there anything else I can or should be doing? She isn't limping, but it definitely has become more swollen and red.

This does look a bit infected and the swelling and redness support this. I suggst you keep her from licking her foot (put an e-collar on her) and pay your veterinarian a visit for an exam and wound care.
