My cat steals and hides everything. Is this normal hoarding behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 months and 27 days old | 9 lbs

can cats actually be hoarders / kleptos? i know all cats “steal” things like hair ties and whatnot but my cat has hoards of toys, garbage, clothes, shoes, etc under every piece of furniture in my bedroom.every time i move smth i find 10-20 items. i actually see her take toys from her toy basket and stuff from my trashbin and hide them sometimes. she stole a lint roller and hid it under my tv stand for a month until i had to buy a new one. i’ve never had a cat who did this! it’s so strange !

Every animal is different and this can be the case for Annie. I would try to see where the items were originally to try to stop her from getting to those locations. I would also try to get toys she can "hoard" that are more appropriate for her. My concern is one day she eats one of these objects and it becomes surgical.
