My puppy's stool is half solid, half diarrhea. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 4 days old | 10 lbs

My puppy has solid stool but recently while he had solid stool, toward the end he had a moist like stool. Half solid, half diarrhea. We feel him twice a day of the Hills Science Grow & Learn puppy food. He drinks water & when sometimes he doesn’t drink much we give Pedialyte once a day to help him stay hydrated. He does not have shots yet until this week, Wednesday but does take HomeoPet WRM CLEAR for a week.5 drops a day , 3 times a day. What should I do to keep it solid? What should I change?

If the feces is mostly solid, you are doing a fine job. Given Lu's age, he probably still has some worms that should be dealt with using the appropriate drug. Your vet will discuss this with you at his vaccine appointment. You might also consider using a product like Fortiflora Canine. It is a probiotic formulation in a powder that dogs usually absolutely love. You put it on the food once daily and it helps right the GI tract. Also, just to note, there are a small subset of dogs that can actually GET diarrhea from using pedialyte so just keep an eye out for that. Using it is probably not needed particularly in a larger breed dog like a pitty. I would only recommend it if you believe Lu is becoming ill, in which case he should be examined as soon as possible anyway.
