My kitten is breathing fast and lethargic. What can I do at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 2 days old

Hello I have a 6 month old kitten that has developed fast breathing and lethargy. She is still eating and drinking and her gums are pink but she is not acting like her normal self. We can not get her into the vet for two days and can not afford the emergency vet in our area. Any advice would be helpful

It sounds like she is relatively stable for the time being. As far as labored breathing, it is always best to have this type of patient in a controlled monitored environment so as much supervision as possible will be beneficial. However, don't be TOO hands on as that will stress Luna out and may be counterproductive. If you have supplemental oxygen at home you can use this in an emergency situation.
