My dog is suddenly fearful after a medicated bath. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 24 days old | 115 lbs

My dog usually is super good and calm. I gave him a medicated bath for his pyroderma for the first time and you have to let it sit for ten mins. Ever since that bath tonight he’s changed! i couldn’t even walk him for the first time. He’s never been a leash puller at all. And he was so fearful at everything and dodging and running everywhere and like a mad man. I could barely get him home. He would do his commands but he’s so on edge. I’m so worried my dog will be this way ! And won’t be sweet

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like Bear is just a little on edge from his itchy skin, unusual bath, and (I’m guessing) recent vet visit. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Keep doing your daily walks and training reinforcement and give him a few days. Even if this anxiety persists, it can often be managed with extra exercise and training in dogs of this age and breed. Best wishes to you and Bear!
