My senior cat is hiding and withdrawn. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 17 years old | 7 lbs

My cat that is 17 years old has recently gone into social withdrawal and hiding under a bed. She is still eating a little bit of food and drinking water. I think she may be preparing for the end of her life. Should I try and take her to the vet or just let her be. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. Thank you.

I would have Carmen checked out by a vet. Whenever there is a behavior change, it's a good idea to have a health check done by a vet. It may not be that she is at the end of her life, it could be she has an illness that may be able to be treated. I wouldn't make an assumptions about her reaching the end of her life without having her seen by a vet. Give your vet a call today to make an appointment. Best of luck.
