Why is my dog's toe swollen, red, and losing fur between toes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 45 lbs

My dog has swelling between 2 of her toes. The swelling seems to only be on half of one toe. Its swollen, tender and red. The fur seems to of come off too. I don't see any cut or crack. Is this a fungal infection?

It could be Athena has a fungal infection, but she could have injured her toe, have a foreign body in it (grass seed or foxtail), or have a skin infection. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. I would take her into the vet on Monday. The vet can diagnose what is causing the swelling, and can treat her for it. Best of luck.
