My dog is sick and not eating after new food. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mountain Cur | Female | unspayed | 15 lbs

My husband bought a high protein dog food from our local co-op. Which is what we think might have made our dogs sick, but still not sure. They are not eating and look very poor. They are outside dogs. One was a puppy we think already died from it. The other we have brought inside. It wont eat and is very skiddish when normally very active and playful. We have 2 older dogs who are absolutely fine. No signs of anything.

This is an emergency and you need to take the sick dogs to a veterinarian or PetER today for an exam. This is not something that will go away by itself. Your dogs may have some intoxication, be it by the food or something else they ate (dead animal etc.) Keep a sample of the dog food to be examined for mold or spoilage. Buy new dog food from a reputable brand, a complete food for the size and age of the dogs.
