My male dog is licking his raw, red testicles. Why is he in pain?

My 3 year old Male keeps licking his balls and they are super raw and red and I can definitely tell he is in pain he keeps getting up and he hovers his butt so he doesnt have to lay or sit on his balls what could this be? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 8 months old | 80 lbs

I would recommend that you have Onyx examined by a vet. If he is uncomfortable laying down, it sounds pretty serious. It can be caused by infection in the skin or the testicles, which may have been brought on by trauma, excessive licking leading to infection, a systemic (or body-wide infection), etc. The vet will do an exam to determine the most likely cause and can prescribe medications for infection, inflammation, or itching as necessary. Until Onyx sees the vet, you should have him wear an e-collar to prevent further licking, since that will prevent spreading infection and delayed healing.
