Pigeon with short beak and eye infection: What to do before vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male

Dear you I have found a feral pigeon that his upper beak is shorter than his lower beak. So he couldn't pick up seeds properly.I give food with a syringe that is made of wheat, barley, sunflower seed,Millet, flaxseed and fruits like apple, orange, tomato, carrot, pepper plus vitamins. Since he is uncomfortable in capacity what can I do to speed up the growing of his beak? I wash his eye several times with saline solution every day. What can I do for his eye before I taking him to the vet? THANK YOU

It would be best to try and bring the bird to your vet ASAP to have it treated as the eye and beak both look like there may be a pox or other sort of infection irritating it. You can use a clean washcloth to remove any debris from the eye to help keep it open and more comfortable. Making sure to keep the bird away from any other pets or people is also a good idea to prevent the spread of any illness until it can be treated by your vet.
