My dog got a tick bite. Could it be Lyme disease even with treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkipoo | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 11 lbs

Hello! Found a rather concerning tick bite on my dog this afternoon, (above right shoulder, centered towards her neck) I removed the tick as soon as I spotted it, but I think I may not have seen it fast enough as her hair is very long. She had her tick treatment last month, do I have reason to be concerned this tick carried Lyme?

If where you live has a problem with Lyme disease, then yes there is a concern. That being said, if she is up to date on her tick treatments, then it should work to kill the tick before something like Lyme disease can be transmitted. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
