Why is my guinea pig's poop soft after moving to a new place?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 1 month old

My Guinea pig poop is liquidity and concerned a little about it. I’m not sure if it is from stress because we just moved to a new place or if it’s something else. She is eating and drinking fine and acting fine just a little concerned

Thanks for reaching out about Miss Piggy. Yes, soft stool can be a result of stress, but stress also lowers the immune system that can lead to bacterial overgrowth or parasitic overgrowth. Since she is still eating well and acting well, try limiting her diet to hay only for 1-2 days, to see if that will firm the stool. Vegetables and fruit can be too rich for the diet and lead to soft stool also. If the clinical signs does not improve, seek an appointment with a veterinarian with experience in companion exotic mammals.

Hi there! I would try to take a stool sample in to your local veterinarian to check for parasites before you move any further along. Some of these things can be treated easily. If that does not help or there are no parasites found-you will likely need to take your pet in to see the vet for a full physical exam and an overview of your diet. I hope this helps!
