Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 79.36 lbs
Hello Team, My Labrador is unable to stand up suddenly after lying down for a long time or after sleep. She needs physical support at times too. Otherwise she is very active and loves to walk and play but after exercise she limps for a few hours that day. We have already reduced her portion size and now she also is on a obesity control dog food diet once a day. Also we ensure to give 2tablets of VENDISC medicine daily. Please advise what could be the reason and what precautions can be taken.

This is probably due to hip dysplasia, a chronic knee problem or arthritis in her joints. She also could have a bulging intervertebral disc causing the symptoms. I recommend using a Help em Up harness on her so you can easily assist her to stand up. In addition speak with your veterinarian about giving her pain medication. I also like to give an omega 3 supplement to reduce inflammation. If she’s overweight reducing her weight will reduce the strain, stiffness and pain in her joints. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Tiara.
