My dog cried and won't jump after playing. Is his paw cracked?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 85 lbs

Yesterday he was playing and ran out the back door and started crying, we don’t know exactly what he did, he seemed fine right after, later last night he was hesitant about jumping up on the couch and bed but eventually did, today he won’t jump up on the couch at all and you can tell he wants to, but if someone’s walking past the house he still gets up and runs fine, there is a crack in his one back paw, don’t know if that could cause it

It could be Buster injured himself yesterday, causing the crying and hesitation to jump. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
