My 1-year-old dog has night anxiety. What are the best solutions?

What would be a good anxiety treatment. For a one year old. He had anxiety during the night. Been to vet already and had all the blood work done. All was good.

If I were you I would try Adaptil first. It is a natural pheromone treatment. Give it a couple months of consistent use to see if it helps before resorting to other stronger treatments like medications/drugs. First, have Archie examined by your veterinarian to diagnose any medical causes. Next, increase exercise and activity during the day to tire him out. Discuss melatonin use with your veterinarian. A pheromone product, such as the Adaptil collar or DAP plug in diffuser, may decrease any nighttime anxiety.

He could have some anxiety issues and you could try an Adaptil collar and see if that helps. I have had good results with the Adaptil collar. Otherwise, your vet could prescribe an anti-anxiety medication, like Prozac or Trazodone which may help the anxiety. http://www.adaptil.com/us/#redirected

Hello. I would start with an over the counter anxiety product like Zylkene. I would also start using a dog appeasing pheromone in the home ( room diffuser ) or it comes as a collar. The pheromone can calm an anxious dog without drugs. Adaptil is the name of this product. If this does not help over the course of a couple of weeks, you will need to talk to your vet about possible behavior modification therapy & the use of prescription medications like Trazodone. Hello. Much depends on what is the underlying cause of your pets anxiety. Noise phobias can sometimes respond to gradual conditioning to that noise. Training & training tools & toys can sometimes help with separation anxiety. Often, we turn to pharmaceuticals & supplements. I always recommend OTC products like Zylkene or Composure. These are natural supplements that contain ingredients that are not harsh or dangerous. CBD may help with anxiety, but you need to be sure the company you use has scientifically formulated their products to be sound. This is a difficult question, as the recommendation for which medications or therapies to start for anxiety are very individualized to the patient and the specific things that are triggering their episodes. Yes, there are things you can use! I recommend a Sentry calming collar. It releases calming pheromones when in contact with a dog's skin. You can also use DAP diffuser, which releases these calming pheromones. Calming chews may also be an option for Bentley. I hope this helps!

There are a few natural things you can try first. First, if it is the barking that is the biggest problem you can try a citronella bark collar. If you feel like he is mostly anxious, you could try a calming collar like adaptil or sentry. There are also some calming chews which can help to curve anxiety like vetriscience composure chews. If these things don't work, then you may have to try something stronger like an anti-anxiety medicine like trazadone or fluoxetine on a daily basis. You can talk to your vet about these medicines or something similar that may help. Finally, worse can scenario there are bark shock collar that you could try if nothing else helps. I hope this helps!

Poor Jett! I'm sorry to hear that he's having this problem. As far as over-the-counter calming aids, my favorite brands are Zylkene and Composure Pro. A DAP (dog appeasing pheromone) collar can also be helpful for some dogs - this is sold under the trade names Adaptil and Comfort Zone. However, I can tell you that in my experience, the vast majority of dogs with serious anxiety issues really need prescription medication to see any significant improvement - natural calming aids just aren't enough. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about daily medication options that may help, such fluoxetine or trazodone. If your regular vet isn't well-versed in behavior issues, you could also consider making an appointment with a veterinary behaviorist. However, it's unlikely that that alone will help with the degree of anxiety you've described. No other over the counter medications are likely to help with this situation. Instead, I'd recommend calling your vet to see if they can prescribe an anti-anxiety medication, such as trazodone, alprazolam, or fluoxetine (although this one can take up to 2 months to reach peak efficacy). You can also work on helping Diesel to acclimate to these noises by short training sessions. For instance, sit beside the radiator with him when it's quiet while petting him and offering small, high value treats (peanut butter, canned cheese, or tiny pieces of meat work well for many dogs).
